For all of you friends tracking Adam's progress here's a piece of housekeeping. He had to name his personal GPS and we named it Wilson, in homage to The Castaway, so when you see that prepared message from Wilson its Adam checking in. Just click on the link and zoom in to see where he is.
Before we left, Devin shaved his head  in preparation for the journey and as Adam said, "he now looks like a serial killer, and will never do that again"

Okay, we set off for Georgia on Thursday evening, March 29.2012 and made it there for Friday night. Adam signed in at Amicalola Falls State Park on  Saturday March 31,2012 as the 7th  thruhiker of the day and # 618 of the 2012 season. 

We had an emotional good-bye and he began his 8 1/2 mile  approach to the official start of the AT at Springer Mountain  at 9:15am.
 He made his first official check-in after he registered their at 1:45.
