Had a wonderful conversation with Adam today! He and Bueller excitedly made it into Damascus, Virginia late Thursday afternoon. This was one of his pre-trail goals, to make it to "TRAIL DAYS".   The Appalachian Trail along with about 6 other trails traverses through Damascus, giving it the well deserved nickname, Trail Town. Therefore, they hold a festival every May, the weekend after Mother's Day.  He said the town was loaded with hikers, tourists, crafters and vendors for one big party. He was able to reconnect with old trail friends, get some gear repaired, buy new stuff ( hammock tarp & H2O filter) and visited all the vendors and free workshops. He sent home some local crafts, can't wait to see them! Took part in a Hikers Parade, in a kilt,  and enjoyed skits and music all weekend. He tried to post photos on Sat. , but the lines were outrageous, and given that he's in the Blue Ridge Mt's. , in the middle of the Bible Belt, the library and Internet cafes were closed today. So photos and his personal update will have to follow at a later time. Can't say enough about the southern hospitality...again free showers and food for the thru-hikers at the Baptist church.
